Entre Pedras – Heroic Viticulture

Entre Pedras is more than a winery—it is a reflection of Pico Island’s untamed beauty and the relentless spirit of those who work its land. Founded by André Ribeiro and Ricardo Pinto, our project was born from a deep respect for the island’s volcanic terrain and a desire to create wines that capture its raw, authentic character.

The story began in 2017, when André and his father planted the first vines—1.3 hectares of Arinto dos Açores in the north and 0.15 hectares of Verdelho in the south. Years later, fate reunited André and Ricardo during the 2019 harvest, and they decided to turn their shared passion for viticulture into something more. Their first wine—a mere 500 bottles of Arinto dos Açores—was aged in a lava cave beneath their vineyard, a decision that not only honored Pico’s volcanic landscape but also set the tone for the unconventional path they would follow.

From the beginning, Entre Pedras has been built on hard work and perseverance. Clearing land, rebuilding stone walls, and expanding vineyards became part of the daily routine, as the project grew to include new plantings of Terrantez do Pico and the discovery of an old vineyard in Criação Velha, a place they believe holds the purest expression of Pico’s terroir.

Our approach to winemaking is simple: let the land do the talking. We embrace native yeasts, minimal intervention, and the unique microclimate that shapes each vintage. The salty Atlantic winds, the black volcanic rock, and the island’s ever-changing weather conditions create wines that are distinctly Azorean—vibrant, fresh, and deeply connected to their origins.

Entre Pedras is not just about making wine; it is about preserving a tradition, honoring a landscape, and sharing the essence of Pico with the world. Every bottle is a tribute to the island’s history, its people, and the determination required to cultivate vines in this extraordinary place.

This is our journey. This is Entre Pedras.
